"Jelly Nails" Are Summer's Biggest Manicure Trend

Since the start of 2018 we've already seen our fair share of nail trends. Most recently there was the black and gold trend, which is a winning color combination that's still going strong. (Actually black and gold nails will never not be on-trend, if you ask us). But lo and behold, another nail trend has surfaced, and it's already started to take over social media. Seriously, though, it's even made an appearance on Kylie Jenner's Instagram feed.

We're talking about the so-called "jelly nails," which are inspired by the late '90s/early 2000's. The name doesn't refer to the texture or color of the nails, but to the transparency of them. Remember those Lizzie McGuire-esque jelly sandals you used to wear as a kid? Yeah, they look something like that. In other words, they're colorful, youthful, and playful, and the Internet seems to agree that they were practically made for summer. Keep scrolling to see the trendiest manicure of the moment, straight from the feeds of expert nail artists.

Park Eunkyung is the expert nail artist behind the ever-popular account @nail_unistella. It happens to be one of this writer's favorite Instagram accounts to follow...like of all-time. Her feed is full of fresh and innovative nail looks, not unlike this gorgeous take on the "jelly nails" trend, which she refers to as PVC nails, since they're made from colored plastic.

You can go for bold brights or softer pastels, but either way, we like when a jelly manicure makes use of all the different primary colors. Consider it summer's updated take on spring's rainbow nail trend. Yup, it's official. We're calling it. The trendiest manicure of the moment is a combination of rainbow and jelly nails. We will plan for our next manicure accordingly.

If multi-colored nails aren't your thing, and you prefer something more, well, cohesive, then try replicating this  insanely gorgeous jelly manicure from Mei Kawajiri of NAILS by MEI. She used real flowers combined with the customary transparent nails to achieve this design.

Like we said before, the jelly nails trend has even found its way onto Kylie Jenner's Instagram. That's the true test of a trend, right? While Kylie isn't the one sporting the jelly nails (she's the one with the neon lilac nails), her friend chose hot pink jelly nails for her manicure. If it's good enough for Kylie's inner circle it's good enough for us, right?

Next, check out the 23 best summer nail looks we'll be wearing all summer long.
